On Monday, June 4th, more than 100 employees will give Kaspar Companies a facelift. We will sweep and polish, sort and label, rearrange and remove, whatever it takes to revitalize the Shiner factory campus for our Clean Sweep initiative.
“If you don’t use it, lose it,” stresses CEO Jason Kaspar, summing up his approach to Clean Sweep. “Getting rid of old parts and equipment will create a nicer work environment and make workspaces more efficient.”
This commitment to change reflects the influence of Lean Manufacturing, a production method designed to improve productivity. Over the past year, Kaspar company executives have embraced Lean concepts to increase worker output and streamline inventory management.
“Kaspar thrives on innovation,” says Gerald Tempton, chief administrative officer. “Our history has been a key part of our success, but here on the factory floor, the past can get in our way.”
In 120 years, Kaspar has grown from a small shed of family members making wire baskets to a thriving factory producing everything from grocery carts to truck bumpers. But housekeeping has not kept pace with progress.
Obsolete machines and forgotten projects, outdated parts and broken tools, faded work logs and tattered manuals, it’s all got to go. Imagine big trash day for a 100,000-square-foot factory which hasn’t been cleared out in years.
So heads up Clean Sweepers, let’s rise and shine, let’s toss and turn, let’s work together to make our working world a better place!
